Bublik’s allergy to South America and clay: “They threw bottles at us!”

Alexander Bublik will not play in Rosario for the Davis Cup series between Kazakhstan and Argentina, as confirmed to CLAY by the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.

The Kazakhstan’s number one and 27th in the world gave up competing in the World Group Qualifers, and will prioritize his participation in the European indoor swing: he started playing this week the ATP 250 of Montpellier.

Bublik’s allergy to South America

Bublik had already commented on his desire not to play in South America again. Alexander Bublik’s allergy to South America and clay. In 2023 he played the Qualifers against Chile. “We played Chile in Chile and I’m not sure I want to do it again. Now we play Argentina in Argentina,” he said on Ultimate Tennis Showdown’s “All on the table”, in a conversational format that reunited him with Casper Ruud and Benoit Paire to promote that exhibition tournament.

“When you raise your head and they (fans in the stands) show you everything they think about you…they threw bottles at us! We all complain, but for them it’s absolutely normal,” he commented. There were no such serious incidents registered in the series in La Serena, a coastal city 472 kilometers north of Santiago.

The Central Asian nation’s team will feature Denis Yevseyev, Timofey Skatov, Dmitry Popko and Aleksandr Nedovyesov.

It is the first time in history that a Davis Cup series will be played in Rosario. The Argentine tennis players nominated by Gulliermo Coria are singles players Francisco Cerundolo, Tomás Etcheverry and Sebastián Báez; and doubles players Andrés Molteni and Máximo González.
