LONDON – Carlos Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner once again at Wimbledon, and he believes the Italian will use the pain of the Roland Garros final as fuel.
“Jannik will take what he did wrong—both physically and mentally—in Paris and turn it into strength. This Sunday he will be stronger,” said the Spaniard after defeating North American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6) on Friday in the semifinals of the third Grand Slam of the year.
Despite the devastating loss for the world No. 1 in the fifth-set tiebreak after wasting three match points in the French Open final, Alcaraz does not believe the bitter memory will weigh Sinner down.
“I don’t think what happened in Paris will be a big factor. Jannik is a great champion, someone who learns from the toughest moments he’s been through,” Alcaraz said. He, on the other hand, still reflects on his epic triumph in early June.
“That final shows how one or two points can change a five-hour match. I learned that we can come back from anything, and that in tennis you have to stay fully focused from start to finish,” he added.

In the London heat, the defending two-time champion secured his place in a third straight final at the All England Club. Only Björn Borg and Rafael Nadal reached their third Wimbledon final in a row at a younger age than the current world No. 2.
Now into his sixth Grand Slam final — having won all five previous — Alcaraz is riding a spectacular run of form. He has won 24 consecutive matches since his loss to Holger Rune in the Barcelona ATP 500 final.
A month after a match many consider one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all time, anticipation is sky-high. Novak Djokovic, who was defeated in straight sets by Sinner in the semifinals, certainly thinks so.
“The anticipation for this final is huge; Carlos is the favourite because of his two titles here, the way he’s playing and his confidence. But he only has a small advantage,” said the Serbian.
Sinner, smiling during his on-court interview when asked for a preview of Sunday’s clash, urged fans to manage their expectations.
“We don’t know if it will be as good as the last one, but we’ll both give our best.”
